Adding to the Pyles

We’re excited to announce that we’re expecting to add a fourth member to our family around the beginning of August!  Allison is thankful to have made it through the first trimester and hopes to start feeling better soon.  Even though she hasn’t been feeling great, she appreciates being in the U.S. this time, where she doesn’t have to deal with giardia (an intestinal parasite) for three months along with pregnancy.

She would still appreciate continued prayers for health and energy and also for a healthy baby and smooth (as much as possible!) birth.  She is a little apprehensive about using a different (but closer) hospital than last time.  Also, she recently had a really rough week around 11 weeks with a few days of a strange allergic reaction (hives/rash/swelling) followed by few days of, um, not keeping any foods or liquids down.

Eric’s Role

Eric is still enjoying his work on the Digital Bible Library—making scripture available to those who need it.
If you haven't seen it already, check out this short video that summarizes the technology Eric is working on:
Last week and this week Eric is very busy helping to upgrade the Digital Bible Library (DBL) server to version 4.0 so that Bible translation organizations can handle all of their licensing requests online and Bible app organizations can see the licensing requirements and request access. Praise God that the upgrade has been going smoothly so far! Please pray it will finish successfully.

In December DBL celebrated reaching the milestone of hosting more than 1000 Bible texts, which is helping more people have access to the Bible in more languages on mobile devices and computers around the world.  To read more about this milestone, go to http://demoss.com/newsrooms/americanbible/news/bible-makes-a-big-leap-forward .

Here’s a story about one of the many people impacted by this work:
  • A man who speaks the Miskito language of Nicaragua and Honduras visited Wycliffe’s Discovery Center [in Orlando]. He asked Natalie Anderson, the tour guide, if the Bible had been translated into his language… Natalie said, “…When I told him he could pull it up on his phone and read it, he got the biggest smile on his face and said he could not believe it! To see his face light up was so great!”

Update from Tanzania

After a lot of hard work from a lot of people, the Jesus film is now ready in Jita--the language Allison worked with!  The preparation involved several people from the office where we worked in Tanzania, a team from the Jesus Film Project that traveled from the U.S., and a total of 27 Jita voice actors!  They hope to hold the premier soon!  To read more about that process, check out

Allison’s Role

Allison still enjoys serving as the Alumni Relations Coordinator for the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (GIAL).  She is also very thankful for a work study student (Jojo) who has helped her keep on top of things.  However, with her limited hours, and with a new baby on the way, her hope is that they can find someone with more time available to take over her role, and then she can just help out as needed.  Please pray that they would find the right person for the job before our next child arrives! She has been busy restructuring things during her time there and would like to have time to train a replacement!

At Home

Allison and Sarah have been busy this year.  They have been involved in a weekly Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) (though Allison has been falling behind a bit lately with the nausea and fatigue) and in a monthly Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group.  Also, one of the highlights of their week is going to a weekly Mainly Music class at a local church.  They also go to their church Bible study when they can or visit the local library.  Allison is also currently serving as the Secretary for Women in the Church at our home church.  We think they may need to slow down a bit when the next baby comes!

Sarah's Playpen

Sarah is almost 2 now—her birthday is in late February.  We all recently enjoyed seeing lots of family for Christmas, and Sarah kept busy talking and entertaining everyone.  She continues to be independent and adventurous!

Some fun quotes:
“Cheese!” (when she sees a camera aimed at her)
“We’re going to church!  I’m so excited!”
“Daddy joking again…”
“The itsy-bitsy spider climbed up the water spout—We don’t play with spiders.  We don’t play with bees…”
“Mommy has a baby in her tummy.”
